Its Stars at the LWConnections Luncheons in December

November, 2011star1_1

At our November luncheon in Vacaville, I blurted out an idea at the closing that seemed to receive some support and with Terry Minion from Upward Trend’s direction, I came up with this revised idea. The Little Wings Connections Luncheons are having their first Christmas Giving Tree!!!! Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!!!! This is my envisionment. Everyone, who knows a child, senior… anyone with some opportunities this holiday season can bring a sticky note or piece of paper with the item requested. Jocelyne, Corina and myself will transfer over the requests onto little yellow stars and place them on a Christmas Tree. At the December luncheons, those who can contribute, can pick a star and obtain the present for the person in need. We will schedule a deadline to have all the items  purchased by, and wrapped. I am open to any suggestions for delivery and pick up. Edie Thomas offered to use her facility at Connections for Life as a location to deliver and pick up the presents. This is a great idea and I am looking forward to accomplishing this you, my fellow peers!

Solano County Coats for Kids

September 10, 2011

It’s that time of year again for Darla Stever’s Coats for Kids, her non-profit organization, which is not to be confused with News10’s Coats for Kids that reaches the greater Sacramento area.

Through out the years I have heard about News10’s mission and I didn’t realize that Darla’s Coats project was more focused on our local community here in Solano County. Darla started her Mission in 2001 and became a non-profit in 2005, raising enough money to provide about a 1,000 new coats each year to children that going through their own opportunities. Both Darla’s and News10 are excellent in their missions, where they differ is that Darla asks for donations so that she can specifically buy coats for each particular child based on their numeric size and their gender and News10 accepts used coats and recycles them through out their area. The reason for the difference is the capacity of storage. Darla does have some storage space but if she is not able to get each child his or her needs size if they were randomly donated, then she would have to save them for the next year and a lot of children may not receive a coat. Darla discreetly requests that the schools in Solano County help her to get the sizes of the children in need of the coats so that everyone is accounted for. Darla also starts her event earlier in the year than News 10 to make sure that the children are ready for the rainy season and this also enables her to help out News10 with her overage if she receives any lightly used coats. 293612_257652854266025_100000639378063_900684_1198059837_n

As I asked Darla what was her drive to make this her reality, she teared up and shared with me her ONE DIFFERENCE that keeps her going. The little girl’s name was Sally and her coat that she received from Coats for Kids was the only thing in her life that was new, her mom wrote Darla and told her that she never took it off wearing it 24/7. Sally is Darla’s one difference that has humbled her to this amazing being that was sitting across from me today. I honor her and have asked to be on her board for next year as her auction event is around the corner for this year.

Please join me on September 10th at the Cordelia Fire Hall between 5pm and 10pm for the Dinner Dance Charity Auction, FEATURING a Silent/Live Auction, Tri Tip and Grilled Chicken Dinner ,Dessert Auction, raffles & music/dancing with the Band “PUSHBACK” . Tickets are $40 per person in advance. For more information, please call 707-322-0943. E-mail: CoatsForKidsSC@aol.com 501(c)3  Federal ID# 20-3854438

The Vacaville Neighborhood Boys and Girls Club’s 2nd Annual National Fine Arts Exhibit

December 29, 2011004
Please come and share in the exhibit of Vacaville’s newest and upcoming artists. Their talents are expressed on canvas through heart-felt images that gleam off  their pedestals. These youth have collaborated and worked on their pieces throughout this past year using multi-colors, oils and mono-chromatics. Some work is created with collages and crayons depending on the age groups of the budding Picassos. The exhibit starts December 29th at Brenden Theatres in Vacaville for observance. The children’s creations will be on display until the evening of January 5th at 5pm when art aficionados will be asked to cast their votes and a Wine and Cheese reception will proceed catering to a meet and greet of the Monets and Klimts in our own Local Solano County Region. Darla started her Mission in 2001 and became a non-profit in 2005, raising enough money to provide about a 1,000 new coats each year to children that going through their own opportunities. Both Darla’s and KCRA are excellent in their missions, where they differ is that Darla asks for donations so that she can specifically buy coats for each particular child based on their numeric size and their gender and KCRA accepts used coats and recycles them through out their area. Darla also starts her event earlier in the year than KCRA to make sure that the children are ready for the rainy season and this also enables her to help out KCRA with her overage if she receives any lightly used coats.

DSC03150
